From tabletop games to distant galaxies

Games and tournaments

Ropecon offers its visitors a wide variety of different tabletop role-playing games, live-action role-playing games (LARPs), card games, board games and miniature wargames. Skilled players compete against each other in card game, board game and miniature wargame tournaments, and all visitors can choose their favourite in the role-playing game scene competition. Tabletop role-playing games are at the core of Ropecon. There are always multiple games being played throughout the convention at nearly all hours of the day, guided by tens of Game Masters (GMs). Both beginners and more experienced role-players will surely find a game to their liking at Ropecon.

Lectures, panel discussions and Guests of Honour

Ropecon features a plethora of lectures, panel discussions and presentations on role-playing games and game design that are both educational and inspirational. Experts in the field of gaming and experienced role-playing enthusiasts introduce visitors to interesting topics and phenomena from both the real world and alternative realities, share their experiences, and give tips on how to put all that knowledge to practical use. Ropecon also features Guests of Honour, who are inspiring international personas, impressive speakers, and experts in their respective fields. Guests of Honour for this year’s Ropecon are role-playing book author Monica Valentinelli (United States) and role-playing game producer Anna Westerling (Sweden). Come and hear their take on topics such as the meaning of role-playing games and this year’s theme, classics!

Workshops, dancing, demonstrations and so much more

In addition to games and lectures visitors can also attend a range of interesting workshops and demonstrations. You can try archery, foam weapon fighting, historical sword combat, miniature figure painting, or even build yourself a new prop or an accessory. If you need a break or some entertainment, you can explore the art and prop galleries, watch medieval combat shows or sit down to listen to a fairy tale session. On Saturday, you can admire fantastical costumes at the Ropecon Gala, or practise your steps and participate in the Historical Dance Ball.

Meet and greet

Together with volunteers, visitors are the heart of Ropecon. Many people come to Ropecon every year to spend time with others who share their love for role-playing games, to meet old friends and make some new ones along the way. You are sure to be in good company at Ropecon, no matter which universe you come from.

Looking for like-minded people or advice on how to get started with a new hobby? There are many role-playing game and cosplay related organizations and associations present at Ropecon who are more than willing to introduce you to their activities. You can also purchase tickets to other events and conventions at their booths. The Experience Point and Safe Haven also offer help and advice for new visitors during the convention.

Flea market and Vendor Hall

Vendor Hall is a treasure trove of good bargains and unique handmade items. You can find role-playing games, card games, board games, miniature figures, and so much more. Talented artisans are also present to sell their crafts, art, clothing, accessories, props and jewellery.  T-shirts with yearly designs and other fun merchandise are for sale at the Ropecon Shop.

There is also a traditional flea market at the Vendor Hall where visitors can sell their used role-playing game related items, such as props and accessories for LARPs, books and novels, miniature figures, games, and self-published works by smaller independent Finnish game designers.
